My first impressions

by Isaac from Rwanda Two months I am already as a South-North volunteer in the Youth Center Lütgendortmund. Two months I am already in this beautiful country. I have gained a lot of experiences. I have found friends and relatives here. I am happy to be here and I am working. We have different offers and programs for young people and children. They help me to progress with the German language. I had the opportunity to go to the Kirchentag in Nuremberg and study the Bible again. Once again I am very surprised how hungry Christians are for the Word of God, and it is a great joy to be here. I thank those who help us and those who live with us, and I pray that they will continue to care for us.

All of Gods plans are perfect

by Roselva from Indonesia Hello. My name is Roselva Manalu but everyone here called me Selva. I had to wait two months before my flight to Germany was planned. It makes me nervous, yet I fill my days in Indonesia with fascinating activities. Previously, I was a final semester student as a student at a university in Indonesia. And to fill my days, I made a research that became a requirement for my graduation. I graduated on May 30th and got my S.Pd. although not yet officially because I haven't graduated yet. In my opinion, the delay in my departure schedule is not a misfortune but a way from God so that I can finish my studies first. In my perspective, one thing is implied: all of God's plans are perfect. I can't wait

Silent-Disco: A disco event

By Helen from India Silence and Disco! Do you wonder how it works?   Yeah, even I was amazed by the same. On 06.05.2023, It was my first time to experience this. As the name defines it was both silence and disco. Everyone on the floor was given wireless headsets to select whatever songs they found melodic and tuneful from three different channels with three different DJs. Language doesn't stop us listening to music, right?  Yeah, I was enjoying some German songs too like Wildberry Lillet and a few more. It was fascinating to see people who are young and adults listening to music and dancing on the floor in their own style. Listening to different music genres in different languages entertained me in a different way. Capturing good moments makes good memories. Yes!! There

Bremen Seminar

By Nisha Parera from Sri lanka   Hello you, I hope all of you are doing fine and enjoying the summer! Last week (April  24th – 28th) all the volunteers from UEM who are currently in Deutschland participated in the first in-person seminar at LidiceHaus in Bremen! There were 13 of us; myself, Daniel, Ruben, Eliza, Phaskal, Michellvin, Gratien, John, Isaac, Eva, Melina, together with Julia who is our coordinator and Chantal who was a former North-South volunteer. We had zoom meetings with Lisa and Thea from UEM in which we introduced ourselves. It was the first time all of us met each other in person and I think we all accept ourselves to be one big family regardless of our ethnicities and backgrounds. Throughout the activities we developed our team spirit and also shared the grief of one of our volunteers who

Lovely Gartentag

By Phaskal Barus from Indonesia   A Garden is an arranged space; normally outside, for pleasure in plants and different types of nature and we can also do something creativelly in our garden. It was on 22nd of April 2023 when we had a Gardening day in the International Volunteerhouse. It was really nice and fun to enjoy, because a lot of people were participating with enthusiastic and worked together to clean and arrange the Garden with happiness. This day brought many positive things and delivered us all out of the routine. We were happy and enjoyed a lot the Gardening, and after a while of Gardening stuff we were Preparing some foods to eat. We are really sure if you were there or will be joining us next time, you will find a

Let us stay in contact

by Frida from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and from Germany First of all, I would like to thank God for accompanying me during my volunteer year in Germany. I can’t say that everything was easy while I was in Germany and even less that everything was difficult, but I will say that there were wonderful moments and a little worry about the language (German) because here in Germany the lack of knowledge of the German language really hinders many things like: Communication, work, relationships, travel, shopping, etc. But I had made an effort to master the language a little bit and also thanks to the Ecumenism Unit, a private teacher was found to teach me the language. I also took the exam and before I came home I had passed my exam

Helen in Taizé

“The more we travel, the more we learn”  [01.04 - 10.04.2023]     Ten days at Taizé were amazing days with my group from Dortmund, also in meeting different people from different countries, having different kinds of food and getting to know different languages and experiencing a mixture of weather conditions(Windish, Rainy and Sunny). I personally enjoyed and had a great time in Taize. The discussions that we had, the games and altogether the time spent with my bible group is simply amazing.Though it is hard for me to connect with unknown people, I am happy that I have spent time in meeting new people and built conversations with the unknown. This place helped me spend time for myself and to learn more about being independent, the people_the differences, the similarities, the responsibilities. The Resurrection Day(Easter) celebration
