ich bin Nishadini (Nisha) Perera aus Colombo, Sri Lanka. Ich bin 26 Jahre alt und lebe mit meinem Vater, meiner Mutter und meinem jüngeren Bruder zusammen. Ich habe am Methodist College studiert. Ich habe einen BA-Abschluss in christlicher Kultur, westlicher klassischer Kultur und Massenkommunikation sowie einen Master-Abschluss in christlicher Kultur. Ich habe mehr als fünf Jahre lang bei einer koreanischen NRO (KFHI – Korea Food for the Hungry International in Sri Lanka) gearbeitet. Ich habe viele Freund*innen und wir treffen uns, wann immer wir Zeit haben.

Mein Name ist Phaskal Enda Haganta Barus. Ich bin 22 Jahre alt und komme aus Indonesien. Ich lebe mit meinen Eltern und meiner geliebten Schwester zusammen. Ich habe an der Universität Chandigarh in Indien Betriebswirtschaftslehre studiert und 2022 meinen Abschluss gemacht. Ich mache einige Geschäfte in meiner Heimatstadt, die in Karo Regency, North Sumatera, Indonesien ist. Ich baue einige Felder für Jugendliche auf, damit sie sich in der Landwirtschaft und Viehzucht entwickeln können.

Mein Name ist Isaac Muhayimana. Ich bin 25 Jahre alt und lebe mit meinen beiden Eltern, meinen beiden Brüdern und einer Schwester in Ruanda. Ich habe Elektrotechnik studiert und 2017 meinen Abschluss gemacht. Das ist es, was ich bisher mache.
Ich bin Christ in der anglikanischen Kirche in der ruandischen Diözese Shyogwe. Ich spiele gerne Fußball, liebe es zu lesen, besonders die Bibel zu lesen, mit meinen Freunden und Gleichaltrigen zusammen zu sein und wir reden und arbeiten zusammen. Eigentlich liebe ich die Menschen sehr, denn Gott sagt uns, dass wenn du deine Mitmenschen liebst, du auch Gott liebst.

Ein heiliger Abend

Im Jahr 2022 habe ich das erste Mal seit ich geboren wurde Weihnachten und Silvester ohne meine Familie und außerhalb meines Heimatlandes gefeiert. Ich dachte, dass ich nicht alleine feiern kann – und auch konnte ich mir nicht vorstellen, mit anderen Menschen außer mit meiner Familie zu feiern. Natürlich war es schwierig für mich, aber dann stellte sich heraus, dass ich aber nicht alleine war, sondern mit Carolin, Christina, Helen, Barbara, Gentile und anderen zusammen Heiligabend gefeiert habe.
Im Kongo, wo ich herkomme, ist der 24. Dezember der Tag, an dem wir alles für Weihnachten vorbereiten. Wir gehen zum Friseur und es gibt eine neue Frisur, zur Maniküre und es gibt neue Nägel, wir kaufen viele Dinge und Lebensmittel ein, und wir dekorieren die Kirche und vieles mehr.

Mein Name ist Helen Henry Moses aus Indien (Tamil Nadu). Ich bin am 24. November 2022 26 Jahre alt geworden. Ich habe mein Masterstudium in Sozialarbeit absolviert (Master of Social work in the Specialisation of Medical and Psychiatric settings). Ich bin eine Person, die es liebt, neue Dinge zu lernen. Ich interessiere mich auch für Singen, Schreiben, Musik hören und Kochen und ich möchte noch mehr entdecken.
Über meinen Freiwilligendienst in Deutschland möchte ich vom Tag meiner Ankunft schreiben – ich bin am 9. Dezember 2022 in Deutschland (Düsseldorf) gelandet, nach einer 8-stündigen Reise von Indien. Ich wurde vom Team (Carolin, Jenny, Frida, Daniel und Lilli) sehr herzlich empfangen. Ja, dies ist meine erste Reise überhaupt, bei der ich für längere Zeit von meiner Familie und meinen Freund*innen getrennt bin. Außerdem ist es das erste Mal, dass ich außerhalb meines Landes (Indien) reise. Es wird eine wunderbare Zeit in Deutschland sein, besonders in Dortmund.

I am Nishadini (Nisha) Perera from Colombo, Sri Lanka. I am 26 years old and I live with my father, mother and younger brother. I studied at Methodist College. I have completed my BA degree in Christian Culture, Western Classical Culture and Mass Communication also I have done my Masters in Christian Culture. I have worked at a Korean NGO (KFHI – Korea Food for the Hungry International in Sri Lanka) for more than 5 years. I have a lot of friends and we hang out whenever we have time.
I am excited to join this volunteers’ group because I know that the experiences I am about to gain from this programme will forever make a huge impact in my life.

A holy night

In 2022, for the first time since I was born, I celebrated Christmas and New Year’s Eve without my family and outside my home country. I thought I couldn’t celebrate alone – and I couldn’t imagine celebrating with people other than my family. Of course it was difficult for me, but then it turned out that I was not alone, but celebrated Christmas Eve together with Carolin, Helen, Barbara, Gentile and others.
In Congo, where I come from, December 24 is the day we prepare everything for Christmas. We go to the hairdresser and there is a new hairstyle, to the manicure and there are new nails, we buy a lot of things and food, and we decorate the church and much more.
On December 25, we go to church from 9 a.m. for maybe three hours and then people go to different places and different houses to celebrate Christmas.
Here in Germany, I experienced something else:

Woo-hoo!! It’s been a month already in Dortmund. I strongly believe that God’s grace has carried me this far.
My name is Helen Henry Moses from India (Tamil Nadu). I have turned 26 years old on 24th November, 2022. About my Voluntary service in Deutschland – I would like to start writing about it from the day of my arrival – I have landed in Deutschland (Düsseldorf) on 9th December 2022, after 8 hours of journey from India. I had a warm welcome from the Team (Carolin, Jenny, Frida, Daniel and Lilli) which was so heart-warming. Yes, this is my first ever journey to stay away from my family and friends for a longer period. To add on, this is my first ever journey to travel out of My Country (India) too. It is going to be wonderful time in Deutschland, particularly in Dortmund. (mehr …)
