Tamil Street Festival in Dortmund

by Nisha from Sri Lanka The Tamil Street Festival in Dortmund took place from 1st to 3rd of September near the U tower. Roselva and I joined the festival on the 2nd day and I was so happy to see Roselva enjoying the event. We had Sri Lankan Street food, especially "Kottu" and she said it's the first time she's trying that dish. A lot of people with a migration background from Sri Lanka and India were there. There were many food stalls, dress and jewellery stalls. We spent a lot of time there and there were musical and dancing events happening on the stage. I was very impressed to see German girls and boys dancing to Tamil songs on the stage! It was very interesting.

Coming soon: Median from Zambia

Hello I am Median Habukali from Zambia. I am 27 years old, living in the town of Choma which is my home town. However, I am a former student of computer application (ICDL) at Chodort Training Center. I enjoy and love visiting friends, cooking, cleaning, singing (it is my talent), going for outings and reading motivational books. Well, with the experience that I have gained as I'm working with the community here that is servicing in my church as a master guide ( who studied the Bible for three years) and being an adventurer leader of our church, I believe that with being a volunteer in Germany specifically in parish of Dortmund,I will be able to share what I have and learn more new things that I will encounter there during my volunteer program.

My beloved family

by Phaskal from Indonesia Home becomes a place of joy and peace. When we grow up, we are faced with the decision to leave home for a while. Some leave to find work or continue their studies. But no matter how far our feet go, in the end we will remember our family at home. Therefore, it is not wrong to talk about homesickness, or missing your family and the atmosphere at home. There is no place more comfortable and safe than home with your family to relieve anxiety. When your body and heart are tired from work, you would like to rush home, wouldn't you? Not just to lie down, but because the family welcomes us with warmth and cordiality. So to say that family is the best place to come home to

Kirchentag in Nuremberg, About the beauty of being on the road together

by Phaskal Barus from Indonesia   We had another big festival, this time in the city of Nuremberg, but it is somehow different from others because this festival is very special because it was about church. But first I want to give you an idea of what the Kirchentag is. The Kirchentag is a church event that always takes place every two years in a different German city and this year it took place in Nuremberg. And what was it like in Nuremberg? The visitors got to know Nuremberg as hospitable, warm and cozy, the people of Nuremberg as peaceful and cheerful. According to the organizers and the police, there were no incidents worth mentioning. This also had a positive effect on the character of the Kirchentag. And this year the theme was "Now

A feeling of comfort

by Helen from India The Volunteershouse: for this place so many young people have left their country to come here to learn, to learn about other cultures, to meet new people, to discover places and much more. Many have come here with different expectations from different countries and backgrounds, and the realization that I am one*of many who feel comfortable in this house gives me a sense of security and a great joy.

The weltwärts-Festival 2023 in Göttingen

by Phaskal from Indonesia Today I’m going to tell you one of my warmest stories. We had a lot of fun, smiles and laughter when we celebrated a weltwärts festival in Göttingen from May 31 to June 4, 2023. Our story began with joy and love on May 31, when all of us who are participating in the weltwärts program this year through the United Evangelical Mission went to Göttingen to celebrate weltwärts‘ 15th anniversary. For your information, we, the South-North volunteers of the United Evangelical Mission, all live widely scattered in Germany and a festival or seminar is a good opportunity for us to meet.

My home in Germany

by Helen from India H O M E My place, My favourite place. (Internationales Volunteershouse Dortmund) There were times of bright nights; There were times of dark days too. There were several sweet gatherings, And, there were some bitter experiences too. There were times of silent tears, And there were times, I laughed my heart out! There were late nights, There were early mornings. There were times of longing for home, Thankfully I have people who treat me as family. Hence, Amid the days of sickness that stagnates, Stood tall with much power to face. Likes and dislikes; Do’s and Don’ts, Differences howbeit similarities, Conflicts yet peace! How should I define this? My home in Deutschland? It’s a doubtless YES!
