Hi everyone, I’m so glad to write again something on this blog. I’m Mirindi Espérance, I’m 25 years old and I’m from the East of DR Congo in Africa. Last year I made a video to introduce myself as a new UEM’s volunteer expected to work in a homeless center in Dortmund and I was so excited because at the time I was making that video I was in my country’s capital city, in Kinshasa for my visa application. It was in April 2020 last year that I should have travelled. I couldn’t wait to meet new people from everywhere, share experiences with them, have good time together, learn new things and be challenged to work as a volunteer. Das Haus wurde mein „sicherer Ort“, als ich in Deutschland lebte. Als ich durch Europa gereist bin, habe ich mich sicher gefühlt, weil ich wusste, dass ich einen Ort habe, an den ich zurückkehren kann. Europa selbst ist ein seltsamer Ort für mich, aber das Volunteershouse in der Meylantstraße könnte mir ein Gefühl von „Zuhause“ geben. Im Volunteershouse geht es nicht nur um das physische Gebäude, sondern auch um die Menschen, die im Inneren lebten, um die Umgebung. So eine schöne Erinnerung hatten wir dort, lebten ein Jahr lang unter dem selben Dach, erzählten fröhliche und traurige Geschichten, kochten und aßen, putzten das Haus, machten es wieder schmutzig und

When I travelled around Europe, I felt safe because I know I have a place to come back. Europe itself is a strange place for me, but the Volunteershouse in Meylantstraße could give me a sense of „Home.“ Volunteershouse is not only about the physical building but also about the people who lived inside, about the neighborhood around. Such a beautiful memory we had in there, living in the same roof for a year, sharing happy and sad stories, cooking and eating, cleaning the house, make it dirty again, and many more.
