by Espérance from DR Congo
I am Mirindi Espérance, i am 24 years old. I am from Goma, a beautiful city in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. My hobbies include meeting new people, sharing experiences, singing, and keep learning through different ways to keep myself informed.
As it is now the case around the world, this new pandemic has stood still all our plans.
Personally, i am writing this few words from Kinshasa where i got stuck while applying for my visa to go to Dortmund, work with homeless people for the 2020-2021 UEM Volunteer program.
Staying away from my family has been challenging for me, even exacerbated by the fear related to the current crisis.
I have had many thoughts about my stay in Kinshasa prior to coming here, but it has been a trying time for me with life during COVID-19 but I am grateful that i have had a supportive system around me. These are friends and family i get to talk to every now and then, they help me keep a sane mindset in these difficult times.
I am very excited about my volunteer opportunity, and i am looking forward to working with homeless people. I hope i will get to accustom myself to the soon to be new environment, climate, language and culture. I hope to keep in touch with my church, make new friends, and the youth. And most importantly, i hope to better serve as a volunteer.
Sincerely
Mirindi Espérance
[…] As I said in my last article, I should have travelled in April 2020 to Dortmund, work with homeless people but it didn’t happen because of the corona virus pandemic and I’m stuck in Kinshasa where I am still waiting for my visa when things get slightly normal because even flights within DRCongo are stopped in this period.Due to this situation; I can’t sing anymore with my church choir in Bukavu or even with my brother and sister in Goma and it’s quite difficult time for me.
