by Josephat Seleman Hema from Tanzania,

On 09.02.2020 we had a Sunday service with the Theme of the next Kirchentag that will be taking place in May 2021 in Frankfurt/Main. It was a nice opportunity that we as International volunteers participated in preparing a sermon and so we all had different things to talk about for the Kirchentag.

I talked about my views on diversity. Even though some communities feel unnecessarily uncomfortable to be integrated with new people, I still feel that diversity is beautiful. From my experience in my volunteering year I have been having a special feeling whenever I see people from different backgrounds co-exist and enjoy the moments. I took an Umbrella with me during the sermon, the umbrella with all the colors we have on Earth. On explaining how beautiful the umbrella because of its colorfulness is, I read a poem that I wrote. In my poem I portrayed diversity as the underrated „little“ miracle in many societies. Diversity should be celebrated, embraced and cherished. There much beauty in Diversity.

Poem in English:

BEAUTY IN LITTLE THINGS

Just like how 5 breads and 2 fishes fed 5000 people.

Don’t we still see miracles and wonders in little things?

Something like, Sunlight,

That bright Sunlight,

As it reaches the Earth’s surface,

And reflect different colors,

Impressing our eyes,

Red, Blue, Green, Orange, Purple et cetera

„Look!“

Don’t we see beauty in little things?

Something like, Rainbow,

As the white light splits,

And expose its inner beauty,

What a pretty little miracle.

Then this reminds us,

There is beauty in colors,

There is beauty in Diversity.
