It’s six months now that I am in Germany, Dortmund to be precise, serving my volunteer year and yet here comes another great and interesting part of being a volunteer “Attending seminars“. However, this piece of writing seeks to briefly narrate what I learned in the first seminar I had for the mid-year break in Woltersburger Mühle.

To start with, from the 7th to the 9th of October 2022. I traveled to Woltersburger Mühle near Uelzen. Here I had my spirituality seminar and learned a lot about being a good shepherd, unite, and sharing. Further, we took time to read the bible about the story of Moses. This story talks about Moses and how he anticipated himself when the Lord called him and assigned him to lead the Israelites into Canaan.

Furthermore, the seminar was interesting and I learned so much from it as everyone was given an opportunity to give his or her point of view of the story.

When Moses was called by the Lord and sent to serve the Israelites from Pharaoh he responded to say that he wasn’t an eloquent speaker. However, the Lord promised to be with him and give him courage and what to say when the time arises. Looking at this story as I was attending this seminar I had put myself in the position of Moses especially when I compared it to my early days when I arrived here in Germany because I couldn’t speak Deutsch or Ukrainian as one of my tasks was helping people who were coming from Ukraine and of course, not everyone could speak English the language I was much more comfortable to communicate in by then.

However, this story and together with the situation I was in tell really that when the Lord wants to use a person he doesn’t consider the weakness of a person. In this same story, we learned about how Moses saw a Burning bush but it couldn’t burn this. This too is evidence enough to tell us that with God all things are possible, and often times he uses things that are beyond human understanding to draw people’s attention and belief in him.

Besides many spiritual things I learned, the person who led us in this devotion took time to explain to us how Woltersburger Mühle was built. He explained to us how garbage was turned into a beautiful place such that we had our seminar there. During his explanation, he took time to take us around the compound and showed us various pieces of art formed out of metal and their meaning. Most of the art explained unity and what may tend to happen if no unity is incorporated and how a person may be excluded from society.

In conclusion, the seminar in Woltersburger Mühle was highly spiritual, refreshing, and rejuvenating.
