Have you ever heard about “Climate Action Day”? Beside the fact, that nowadays it should be every day a climate action day, it is also a global campaign for and of young people who care about climate change and global injustice. It takes place once a year throughout the world, in different parts of the country, every November on same date. In 2012, it took place in the first time. Organizations like the United Evangelical Mission have started to organize it, and now it takes place in several countries of the world and young people in Africa, Asia and Germany participate in this campaign with different actions and ideas. On this day, people come together for demonstrations, competitions and bicycle tours throughout towns and cities, special climate lessons in schools and universities or waste collection and tree-planting actions in the public, workshops on plastic free lifestyle or discussion about mobility, etc. It was interesting for me to see, that not just in Germany, but also in Indonesia or in India young people take part in this day.

Maybe you ask yourself: Why is it important to take action against climate change?

Already we can feel the advanced impact of climate change. Changes in the climate can adversely affect the lives of human being; it can affect food production, water availability, wildlife and human health. Weather conditions, such as storms, flood, volcanos, etc. can damage the infrastructure like houses, roads, house, rail networks, buildings, and can also take human life. We can also see the effects of rising greenhouse gases, such as increase in heat, waves and heavy rainfall. These kinds of extreme events can often have largest impact on human life and hence, it is really important for all of us to take action against climate change because together we are strong for climate protection.

What will you do on Climate Action Day?
