by Jason-Lee from Namibia
Jason-Lee, a young Namibian, embarked on an incredible adventure to Dortmund, Germany, where I spent a significant amount of time volunteering with the UEM organization, including Studio 41 and Evangelische Jugend Dortmund. This experience not only broadened my horizons but also left an indelible mark in my life.
My decision to volunteer in Germany was motivated by a desire to explore new cultures, meet new people, and gain valuable experience. With the support of the UEM Organisation, I was able to navigate the complexities of volunteering abroad. The organization provided me with invaluable guidance, seminars, and resources that helped me prepare for my journey.
The UEM Organisation also made sure of the following for my volunteers year, free German classes, free transport, free flight tickets, free medical insurance, bank account, sim card, free accommodation (volunteers house), monthly pocket money for every month, assist with documentation work and VISA application, and refund of money you paid out of your own pocket and many more.
During my time in Dortmund, I worked closely with Studio 41 and Evangelische Jugend Dortmund, two organizations dedicated to empowering young people and promoting community development. Through my work, I was able to engage with local youth, facilitate workshops, and participate in various community projects.
One of the most significant aspects of my experience was the opportunity to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. I formed lasting bonds with fellow volunteers, colleagues, and community members, creating a network of lifelong friends.
My time in Germany also afforded me the opportunity to travel and explore the country. I visited numerous cities, immersing myself in the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of Germany.
My volunteering experience in Germany was nothing short of transformative. I returned to Namibia with a newfound sense of purpose, confidence, and cultural awareness. I experience a profound impact in my life, shaping my perspective and inspiring for me to continue making a positive difference in my community.
My story serves as a testament to the power of volunteering abroad. If you’re considering a similar experience, I encourage you to take the leap. Not only will you gain valuable skills and experience, but you’ll also form lasting connections, challenge yourself, and contribute to meaningful projects.
As I so eloquently put it, „Volunteering abroad is an incredible opportunity to step out of your comfort zone, challenge yourself, and grow as a person. It’s an experience that will stay with you forever, and one that I highly recommend.“
My volunteering experience in Germany is a shining example of the impact that one person can have when given the opportunity. My story inspires us to embrace new experiences, challenge ourselves, and make a positive difference in the world. As I reflect on my journey, we’re reminded that volunteering abroad is not just an experience – it’s a catalyst for growth, connection, and transformation.
