I once had a thrilling vacation of my volunteering period when I visited Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Hamburg during the winter of 2020. It was a dream trip that eventually made me feel a bit tired and really ‚homesick‘.

On my way back from Hamburg I looked outside the window of the Bus, saw a couple of houses and said to myself,“ I really miss home, I can’t wait to get back Home“. In my mind I tried to imagine and feel the special warmth of the Volunteers‘ House.
Yes, for a period of about a year, I wholeheartedly embrace the ‚homeness‘ of the Volunteers‘ House. I would eagerly drive back after work or any other activity and reach Meylantstrasse 77, feeling a great sense of satisfaction and relaxation. The house was full of life and unexplainable charms whenever meeting Hannah, Rachel, Dika and Carol in the kitchen or the sitting room and talking to them about a few of the daily encounters of our volunteering activities. What a heart soothing moment!

A number of things we did together in the House were things that made us bond strongly and cultivate a strong spirit and an awesome feeling of Home which has amazingly remained in our hearts ever since till today.

When I finally left the house to Tanzania, I felt so sad but I told myself that I’ll once again be there as a visitor. Hearing about the new location of the Volunteers‘ House made me feel a bit uneasy but yes, I hope the spirit of Homeness will as well be an important character of the new House and I’ll once again feel the same whenever I visit it once again.

With a new location, new taste of the city and new people, I strongly hope that there will be a new and finer spirit and sense of Home to everyone that inhabits the Volunteers‘ House in the near future and always.

Long live Volunteers‘ House !
